On average, women in the American workforce are paid 83 cents for every dollar a man makes. Many people in the United States don’t think this should be the case. Rather, most people have said they support equal pay — includingPresident-elect Donald Trump and some of his compatriots in the Republican Party.
Well before the emergence of a video of Mr. Trump bragging of sexual assault, his attitude toward women posed a political problem for him. With the president said to be reaching out to the fast-food executive Andrew F. Puzder to lead Labor, look for the questions to come back.

About a year ago, 18-year-old college student Lauren Batchelder stood up at a political forum in New Hampshire and told Donald Trump that she didn’t think he was “a friend to women.” The next morning, Trump fired back on Twitter — calling Batchelder an “arrogant young woman” and accusing her of being a “plant” from a rival campaign. Her phone began ringing with callers leaving threatening messages that were often sexual in nature. Her Facebook and email inboxes filled with similar messages. As her addresses circulated on social media and her photo flashed on the news, she fled home to hide.

The pantsuits people might have worn while voting are now shrouded in different emotions than they expected. Yes, there’s historic weight because this was what they wore while voting for a female president for the first time, but things didn’t pan out as they had hoped. Now, as a way to give back to the community, one woman has suggested that people donate the pantsuits they wore when they voted for Clinton. Meena Harris, a Pantsuit Nation member, wrote in Lena Dunham’s newsletter Lenny Letter about the idea.

Donald Trump did better among male voters than female ones by 11 points, his support among married voters was 15 points higher than it was with unmarried voters. Married America voted for Trump by a solid margin (52 to 44 percent), while single America voted for Hillary Clinton in a landslide (55 to 37 percent).
